Pope Leo XIV spent the fourth day of his apostolic journey to Spain in Catalonia, where he visited prisoners, joined celebrations marking the millennium of Montserrat Abbey, met representatives of Catholic charities and social outreach organisations, and celebrated Mass at the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
The day included some of the most significant moments of the visit. At Brians 1 prison, the Pope told inmates that “God loves you as you are, but He dreams of something better for you”. At Montserrat, he encouraged pilgrims to leave at the feet of the Virgin Mary “the armour that has gradually hardened your hearts”. The visit concluded at the Sagrada Família, where he blessed the newly completed Tower of Jesus Christ and declared: “We cannot believe in Jesus and promote war. We cannot believe in Jesus and kill the innocent.”
